Scott Luker’s Jefferson Challenger League Found New Soccer Stars

Scott Luker is the founder of Jefferson Challenger League, and has organized a plethora of activities for a noble cause. He is a passionate sportsperson and wants to give children with special needs an opportunity to excel in different types of sports. After speaking to Mayor Russell Felter and Recreation Director Grace Rhinesmith, Scott was able to get the fees waived, so as to start the High School Soccer Jefferson Challenger League. The league was supported through donations as well as funding, and included children of all ages. Luker said that the whole town had been very helpful and supportive, and their children deserved to have their own soccer league.

Jefferson Challenger League was founded approximately 7 years ago, and now, it has spread to West Milford and Sparta with plans to grow even more. During fall, the last year, 6th grade Special Education Teacher “Travis Gage” who is also the Varsity Boys soccer coach discovered that some of their students took part in the challenger league. Thus, he showed his interest to support the league, and Scott Luker together with Gage set it up for the Jefferson Boys Soccer team to become mentors to them and to volunteer their time to the league. Luker told that the teams formed an excellent friendship, both exhibiting to each others' games, as well as displaying their support.

Gage said that during the match the children in his team had a smile on their face and they looked forward to going on those Saturday mornings. Luker and Gage found it very important to have high school athletes instructing the players in the Jefferson Challenger League. Scott Luker said that high school athletes also learned from those individuals whom they were supposed to be coaching. He further added that the Challenger League has already started its basketball season, and the new supporters as well as players are most welcomed to join the league.
